Word "Under" the Street
Between the continuing CUPE strike, and the cold rainy conditions, Word on the Street was not having its finest moment. But although the sales were not as awesome as they were last year, it was not the complete washout we were fearing. And there was drinking and gambling to fall back on in emergencies! And I was wearing my cardigan, so I kept warm.

It was very good to hear from people who had read the book, some who had gotten it out of the library! How crazy is that? And one guy who was using it in his ESL teaching. And quite a few people were impressed by the One Book One Vancouver sign that Ed made (though I think not one of them were impressed enough to buy a book).

Just two pictures:

Word "Under" the Street

This is the post office overhang we were under. It was a little odd at first, but I think ended up being a lot drier than a lot of the tents!

the Choir Practice

Due to strike complications, there was no main stage, so the Choir Practice decided to sing on this ledge. I kind of wish I had bought one of their cds.

I concur with your assessment! I don't regret choosing this over Stumptown. Though I do regret having to choose at all.

Yes, for all its problems, it really wasn't so bad.

It's a sad day when you can make more money gambling than selling books.

Although, that is not 100% the case, I do believe that approx. 20% of the scratch in my pocket was from my lucky P wheel streak.

When it comes to gambling, I might as well just hand over my money, and skip the illusion that I might win. Because I never do.

How about I just pop $40 in the mail for you and call it a day?

Sounds like a plan. Do you have my address?

If this is the way you play, I think you should seriously consider getting in on my weekly poker games.

Oh yah, I was going to comment on your presence there. And how your posture of "Damn it is cold" while trying to lean as far as possible away from the rain...
